The STCB tracking team spent three nights on Klein Bonaire waiting before hawksbill turtle Jklynn emerged from the water at 12:30 AM on October 14, 2011, clearly visible in the brightness of a full moon, to make her nest. After rejecting her initial location, she swam back through the water to select another spot on a high sandy dune to lay her eggs and cover them for their 60 day incubation period. The six member tracking team then followed protocol to collect data and attach the transmitting device to the turtle, before switching it on and releasing her. The nest is Jklynn’s second of the season and she will likely lay two or three more nests around Bonaire before beginning the migration to her feeding grounds.
